Mumbai: Two jewellers from Jaipur suspected of involvement in the IPL betting scandal have filed for anticipatory bail in the sessions court. Their bail pleas will be heard on Wednesday.
Sanjay Chabra and his younger brother Pawan Chabra alias Jaipur run Motison Jewellers in Jaipur. The police believe the two acted as bookies and were in touch with Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf, even paying for his shopping bills in the country.
“The court has asked for our say,” a police officer said. “We will oppose bail.”
Additional commissioner of police Niket Kaushik said the interrogation of the brothers was important to know about the involvement of more people in the case. New arrest in Delhi T he crime branch arrested a bookie, Ritesh Bansal alias Lokesh Delhi, in Delhi on Tuesday. He was brought to the city on Wednesday. Bansal had three cell phone lines of an illegal exchange.
